TRAVERTINO decorative plaster is so versatile, that it can be used in any types of interiors without taking into considerations technical details and the appearance of the material.

Let’s start with technical features.

TRAVERTINO material is permeable to vapor, that said, it means the material allows the walls to “breathe”. It’s a positive thing not only from the ecological point of view, not only it being non-toxic, but this feature also allows to use this material in areas where the surfaces may have a tendency to sag or where the temperatures change drastically. TRAVERTINO plaster contains only of natural components and is water-based, which is important to allergic people. TRAVERTINO is non-toxic and odorless.

TRAVERTINO plaster is also very firm due to one of its components: the micro-particles similar to fine sand. No small scratches, chips or other similar damage is a risk for this material on the walls. This coating suits fine for the public places with high visitor traffic, e.g. corridors, halls, technical compartments, garages, workshops, etc. It’s also ideal for rooms where pets reside. For the greater density TRAVERTINO plaster is covered with a layer of LuxDeco finish varnish; that creates additional firm protective layer and allows the surfaced to be wet-cleaned.

For interiors with high humidity финишный лак Proflux finish varnish may be used. It also created additional protective layer and saves the original color and pattern of the plaster for a long period of time.

TRAVERTINO’s appearance can fit into any type of interior if used with taste and creativeness; the result will not disappoint you.

TRAVERTINO’s base color is white, the material is dense. There are several options of its application and further decoration.

TRAVERTINO application techniques (new concept)

Technique #1: Unpigmented base layer is used to create various textures, which imitate torn stripes, “islands” or just even smooth areas. TRAVERTINO VAX with water-paint effect is applied right after the surface is dry; and then the surfaced gets tinted with water-based colorants. Tinting wax is applied with chaotic movements with a sponge or a paint-roll, with strokes of various intensity, as if spreading the surface of decorative coating. This creates the effect of aged walls or may simply underline the structure of the plaster in a new concept style.

Technique #2: TRAVERTINO new concept is tinted en-masse and is applied the same way as described above (Technique #1) imitating different shapes. The plaster can be allied in two layers, each tinted with a different color.

Technique #3: Each of the previous techniques can be used. On top of it the layer of tinted water-color effect TRAVERTINO VAX wax may be applied. PERLATO ARGENTO or PERLATO ORO may be used as the third layer. This is a translucent water-based varnish with gold or silver effect; the amount can be controlled by the number of layers. You won’t need TRAVERTINO VAX when tinting the finish varnish. PERLATO ARGENTO and PERLATO ORO are also applied with a sponge, paint-roll, or a brush with uneven strokes.

These techniques are viewed as the fundamental ones; they may be combined or contributed with different ones, thus creating something yet uncovered.

TRAVERTINO plaster is applied with a stainless-steel trowel or spatula. The layers are applied for one angle to another so that no junctures are visible.

The walls should be prepared for the application the same way as for usual wallpaper. If the walls were previously covered with plaster, it should be removed. If there are cracks in the surface, the front layer of the coating should be removed, the cracks are to be filled up again. All flaws should also be evened out and filled with plaster. After that the layer of KONTAKT GRUND is applied on top. To avoid future cracks interlining wallpaper is used, the junctures are carefully plastered and evened out with sand-paper. Each layer of the plaster is coated with a layer of deep-penetration primer, even in case interlining wallpaper is used. Once the surface is completely dry, you can start using TRAVERTINO decorative plaster. Each layer of decorative plaster, wax or varnish should be dried for no less than 8 to 16 hours. Once the surface is completely dry, the work is considered to be done.

It’s often for such surfaces as brick, cinder block, and particleboard sheets are used as a surface for coating with TRAVERTINO. However, any surfaced should be prepared for coating. The sagging process (during which the flaws, cracks, and unevenness may appear) must be considered as highly important.

Which instrument to choose for new concept TRAVERTINO?
Appropriate instrument must be prepared before starting to work with TRAVERTINO material. It’s highly not recommended to use instrument made of usual steel. This type of instrument leaves rusty stains after usage, these stains are impossible to remove. To avoid such situation it’s recommended to purchase the set of instruments made of forged steel. Main instruments needed are Venetian trowel, spatula, plastic-bristle brush, sandpaper, sponge, and some cloth.

Creation of “Map of The World” effect with TRAVERTINO
“Map of The World” – is a highly long-durable effect made with TRAVERTINO. The material is often used for both interiors and exteriors. “Map of The World” is based on polymer acrylic paint. If this technique is implemented with TRAVERTINO, the surface can be amazingly beautiful due to the unique combinations of pigments of different colors contained in polymer acryl.

Preparation of walls and material
It’s obligatory to prepare the walls before coating with TRAVERTINO. The walls should be dry, dust- and grease-free. Dust and grease decrease the adhesive ability of TRAVERTINO. The surface is covered with the primer with great care. The next step involves the coating with special primer paint which protects the surface from moisture.

There are several ways to prepare the material. First method involves the preparation of pigmented mixture. Since the material is already pigmented, there’s no need for additional further decoration. Second method presumes TRAVERTINO is used as is. In this case acrylic, silicone, or silicate paint layer is applied on the plaster. It’s important to use water-based paints with natural components.

Polishing of the walls
Polishing is needed to prepare needed texture for “The Map of The World” with TRAVERTINO. Polishing must result in an appropriate layer thickness. It needs to be equal to grain’s size. Otherwise the grains will be pushed inside TRAVERTINO dilution.

Excessive material should be evened out with TRAVERTINO. The trowel is held at an angle of 50 degrees against the surface of the wall. After the texture takes its preliminary shape, it’s polished with a trowel.

Coating with TRAVERTINO
TRAVERTINO should be applied to dry surface. It should be prepared the same way as for wall-paper. The surface is covered with deep-penetration primer and is dried.

The first layer should be applied evenly with the trowel. Its thickness should not exceed 2 millimeters. It facilitates the process if you use stainless-steel trowel or spatula with rounded edges. The layers should be applied starting from lowest to highest angle with extreme care, so that no junctures appear; the entire amount of the material is distributed evenly on the surface.

After first layer gets dry (which takes circa 8 hours), you can step up to the second one. The way you apply the second layer shapes the desire texture. The movements of the instrument can vary: stabbing, or varying angle strokes, or usual chaotic movements are acceptable.

Allow 30 minutes after the material gets dry. Then you can get to evening out of the decorative plaster with a trowel of a spatula. This procedure gives smoother surface or even becomes a little glossy. Both layers need about 24 hours to get dry. Only then should you cover the surface with waxes and varnishes.

To avoid junctures on the surface of TRAVERTINO, only coat at temperatures ranging from +5 to +40 degrees C. The leftovers of the materials can be removed with plain water. But it should be done while the dilution is still wet. Otherwise this procedure is carried out mechanically. Additional painting of the surface should be done in not less than 3 days after the plaster is coated (this concerns the water-based paints). Organic-solvents based paints may be applied only in a week-long period after drying.

In is no uncommon to use decorative plaster with additional tinting wax called TRAVERTINO WAX.

This coating should be applied in a number of textured layers. On top of it the water-paint effect wax is applied. For this purpose one should use a plain foam-rubber sponge chaotically and unevenly, applying different force in different variations. This helps achieve the water-paint and ancient walls effect.

You can add colorants to TRAVERTINO material itself; you can add it to the wax, or both at the same time. Pearl-effect PERLATO ORO varnish can add some “thrill and suspense”. TRAVERTINO is considered one of the sturdiest materials, but if some area of the wall is repaired, this can be noticed.
